Suatu hal yang penting dari Kerajaan Malaka adalah adanya undang-undang laut yang berisi pengaturan pelayaran dan perdagangan di wilayah kerajaan. Untuk mempermudah terjalinnya komunikasi antar pedagang maka bahasa Melayu (Kwu-lun) dijadikan sebagai bahasa perantara.

  Jawab: Kerajaan Malaka didirikan oleh Parameswara antara tahun 1380-1403 M. Parameswara berasal dari Sriwijaya, dan merupakan putra Raja Sam Agi. Saat itu, ia masih menganut agama Hindu. Ia melarikan diri ke Malaka karena kerajaannya di Sumatera runtuh akibat diserang Majapahit. Pada saat Malaka didirikan, di situ terdapat penduduk asli dari Suku Laut yang hidup sebagai nelayan. Mereka berjumlah lebih kurang tiga puluh keluarga. Kemudian, bersama penduduk asli tersebut, rombongan pendatang mengubah Malaka menjadi sebuah kota yang ramai. Selain menjadikan kota tersebut sebagai pusat perdagangan, rombongan pendatang juga mengajak penduduk asli menanam tanaman yang belum pernah mereka kenal sebelumnya, seperti tebu, pisang, dan rempah-rempah.
